there are some things i am terrified to try and make. often times, these are the most basic of things...like tomato sauce. i am sad to say, i am a huge fan of store bought canned tomato sauce. so when i look to tackle something like this, i have to go the easiest route possible. lucky for me, marcella hazan's tomato sauce is famous, crazy good, and oh yea, the simplest thing ever.

28 oz. whole peeled san marzano tomatoes (canned)
5 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 medium sized yellow onion, peeled and halved
salt and pepper to taste
put the tomato, onion, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. bring the sauce to a simmer and then reduce heat to keep at a low simmer for about an hour. stir occasionally, crushing the tomatoes to the side of the pot with a wooden spoon. remove from heat, remove the onion, and add salt and pepper to taste. yum.
